ANGELINA JOLIN’S NEW YORK

Words: Jonna Hunt Photography: Christopher Hunt

Celebrity stylist Angelina Jolin holds stars such as Heidi Klum, Uma Thurman and Reese Witherspoon as her favourite people to work with. She shares her best New York spots.

WHO’S YOUR ALL TIME FAVOURITE PERSON TO STYLE AND WHY?

Ted Turner because he is an American legendary mogul and philanthropist, Heidi Klum because she is such a pro, Kelly Rutherford because she is gorgeous inside out, Uma Thurman because she is iconic and has my shoe size, Reese Witherspoon because she is a true star, Bianca Jagger because she is legendary, Izabella Scuropco because she is the most gorgeous woman ever, even more so with age and Malin Åkerman because she is so fun pretty and easy.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE HANGOUT IN NEW YORK?

Indochine for late dinner, Rosa Mexicano for pommgranate frozen margarita and guacamole, crispy sushi snacks at the bar at The Mark Hotel, drinks at Majorelle or dinner at the restaurant at my next-door hotel, The Lowell.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE STYLE OF COFFEE AND WHERE?

Sant Ambroeus – their coffee is smooth and strong, or hot chocolate at Buvette.

YOUR FATHER EINAR WAS AN ARTIST AND PUPIL OF MATISSE IN PARIS, WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM HIM?

Work ethics – he was up each day with the sunrise. Do not sit around and wait for inspiration to come to you – just start working.

YOUR MOTHER TATIANA WAS A CLASSICAL CONCERT SINGER. WHAT TRAITS DO YOU SHARE?
Her unique sense of original fashion style to dare to be different
YOU LIVED IN PARIS IN YOUR EARLY YEARS, WHAT’S YOUR FONDEST MEMORY FROM THE CITY?
Riding my scooter, clubbing in the mid 1980s, dark chocolate macarons at Carettes, meeting Yves Saint Laurent and Azzedine Alaïa.
WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO FEMINISM?

As a Swede we are pretty equal but it was interesting to visit Kuwait fashionweek as it was new to me to converse with women only showing their eyes.

YOU HAVE A DAUGHTER, WHAT DO YOU HOPE FOR HER IN THE FUTURE?

For her to continue to be happy, healthy and later for her to able to follow her dreams professionally.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST STYLE NO-NO?

You have to know your body and age, a woman of my age wearing too tight and too sexy is not attractive. And capri length shorts on men.

WHAT ARE YOUR MOST CHERISHED GARMENTS?

My vintage Azzedine Alaïa and Thierry Mugler dresses, my mother’s Emilio Pucci items and her Dior glasses and my collection of shoes in size 41+.
